Civil Rights Tax Relief Act advocacy by members of MWELA and MELA
Jump to photos from signing day
The Civil Rights Tax Relief Act (CRTRA) will correct a basic inequity in Maryland tax law. Currently, if one is injured in an automobile accident and receives compensatory damages for pain and suffering, no tax is imposed. On the other hand if one is sexually harassed at work (or otherwise discriminated or retaliated against) and receives compensatory damages for emotional distress a tax is imposed.
CRTRA is pending as SB 639 (sponsored by Senators Manno, Forehand, Rosapepe and Raskin) and HB 1169 (sponsored by Delegates Hucker, Barve, Cardin, Dumais, Kaiser, A. Kelly, Lee, Mizeur, Niemann, Rosenberg, V. Turner and Valderrama).
