A helpful docent at the Friesen Museum suggested we visit the Farmers Market in Wyk the next day (today) and look for a farmer from Oldsum. She said he is known for his interest in local genealogy, especially the stories of emigrees from Föhr.
Before we found the farmer from Oldsum, we saw this van signed by "Familie Arfsten."

Below are Richard, Yu (phonetic) Arfsten, Carl and Christine. Yu is a farmer from Süderende, but he traces his family line only from Süderende, and not from Toftum. However, two of his regular customers were in line: Carl and Christine. They are from Long Island, New York, and also from Föhr.

This is the truck of the farmer from Oldsum, who recommended I talk with Yu Arfsten.

Carl and Christine agreed that I should talk with Ralph at the Tourist Center. Here, Kathy is calling Ralph while discussing her upcoming plans for a visit to Long Island with Carl and Christine.

Carl, me and Ralph. Ralph, Carl and Christine agree that many people from Föhr left for America because they wanted to avoid conscription. Also, there were few economic opportunities in Föhr. Ralph recommends that we visit the Archives on Alkersum. Carl and Christine generously offer to give us a ride.

Archivist Karen was extremely knowledgeable, eager and helpful. She found just the books that contained the genealogical records for my family.

Paula Helene Arfsten is my second cousin. Her daughter lives behind Lot 236 -- the lot (formerly known as 218) where my Great-Grandfather, Theodore Arfsten, lived.

This is one of the geneaology books. It comes in a set of three and I know own one of those sets.
